I called number back, but they answered with "Hello?"...no business name given. They did verify my name and email address (which is easily available through public records) to make themselves sound legit. They told me I owed over $1000 on an old credit card that I never owned from an "HSBC" bank/creditor. I was only given the option to either settle this debt now, or face legal consequences. The more specific the questions I asked and the more I told her I had no such card EVER, the more irate she became. When I mentioned identity theft being a possibility, she told me payments had been made on the card balance, so it was impossible that it was fraud related. I insisted that it had to be identity theft because I never had this card, and I have only one credit card to my name that I've had for over 15 years. When I insisted this was the case, she lost what little "professionalism" she started the call with. That told me it was a scam.
